AB Modern Healthcare magazine will report in its coming issue that 27% of the hospitals it talked with this year are cutting their work forces, some by as much as 24%. Church-affiliated and investor-owned facilities are the toughest cutters. Support staff and middle managers are primary targets. Only 7% of the hospitals plan to add staff.
