There are, however, several unanswered issues in the paper. Because circumcision was not randomly applied to the male babies, the reader needs to be reassured that the two groups (circumcised and uncircumcised boys) are indeed comparable. Variables that relate to circumcision, such as ethnic preferences, socioeconomic status (or military rank), race, prematurity, or hypospadias, may also relate to the risk of infection.
