AB I am pleased to respond to the thoughtful comments of Dr. Baker and Dr. Berdon. The number of children showing abnormal preoperative chest roentgenograms is illustrated in the Figure by their age group. Although a greater number of abnormal chest roentgenograms were present in children less than 5 years of age, the age distribution of the patients admitted to Minneapolis Children's Health Center during the time period of the study showed a similar pattern. Hence, one could conclude that there is probably no significant variation in the frequency of abnormality on the preoperative chest roentgenograms in different pediatric age groups.
