YR 1973 UL http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/52/3/468.1.abstract AB Dr. Steinfeld's recommendations recognized that in 1970 "the determination of blood Pb level, with all its pitfalls," was generally considered "the most reliable of the many biological tests of indicators of lead exposure and absorption" available at the time. In New York City, the Bureau of Lead Poisoning Control has screened hundreds of thousands of children in high risk areas and detected thousands of children with an elevated blood lead. No administrative decision has been made (and none mentioned in our paper) to replace the blood Pb screening program with the FEP test.
