YR 1972 UL http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/50/3/498.3.abstract AB We would like to report an experience with H. parainfluenza meningitis in a 4-year-old boy at our hospital. The organism, recovered from both cerebrospinal fluid and blood cultures, was confirmed as H. parainfluenzae. With a clinical presentation and course not appreciable different from the usual H. influenzae type B meningitis, an unremarkable recovery occurred on ampicillin therapy. Barnshaw and Phillips reported their case of H. parainfluenzae infection in a 4-year-old boy who also made a good recovery on ampicillin; review of the recent literature revealed one other such case, this in a newborn infant reported by Gullekson and Dumoff.
