In the author's words, "In hemophilia are encapsulated most of the problems of adaptation to chronic illness and social limitation found in other disabling conditions." Thus the conclusions of this study should have applicability beyond the confines of hemophilia. The book repeatedly deplores the widespread misinformation about the nature of hemophilia and the general low expectations of potential achievements of persons afflicted with this disease.
