Lactosuria and maltosuria occurred in 15.4% and 7.7% respectively of infants taking evaporated milk formula. Lactosuria occurred in 21.6% of infants receiving Similac and in 28.6% of the breast-fed infants. Lactulose, a sugar not previously described in urines of normal newborns, was present in the urine of 15.4% of infants taking evaporated milk and in 38.6% of infants taking Similac.
