Abstract
Combination therapy compares favorably with monotherapy with regard to clinical outcome and side effects. The dose of AZT and ddI used in combination therapy may approximate that of monotherapy without increasing the frequency of side effects. The children in Arm B had more advanced disease, and possibly had developed resistance to the AZT they had previously been prescribed. Arm B showed much less benefit from therapy than Arm A, both in immunologic parameters and survival.
