Abstract
The article by Higgins et al1 is provocative because it contradicts previous reports of the generally poor outcomes of out-of-hospital pediatric cardiac arrests.2-4 The 46% survival rate for their group in which parents were taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in fact exceeds reported outcomes for in-hospital cardiac arrests.5 This report also conflicts with previous reports that have failed to show a benefit from pre-hospital CPR in pediatric arrests.3,4 Their findings are encouraging but should be interpreted with caution in view of several limitations of their study.
