Abstract
Drs Mascola and Gellert are correct to alert pediatricians to the need to consider the issue of the possible transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) at the time of a sexual assault. The failure to address this issue within the recent position paper on Rape and the Adolescent represents an omission by the Committee on Adolescence which we hope will be in part corrected by their letter. However, the Committee would add the following points of clarification.
