In Reply: Atherosclerosis

Abstract

In his letter, Dr Mauer has expressed concern that my prior commentary constituted a "disservice to science" and "closes the book" on future hypothesis testing.

My commentary was written in response to a previous commentary by Dr Mauer. I was concerned that Dr Mauer's comments, namely, "The significance of serum cholesterol levels as an independent variable could not be definitely assigned" and "there are no available data on children," were misleading. At the very least, the pediatrician deserved a detailed review of the literature and a careful exposition of the cholesterol hypothesis.
