Abstract
I am writing with regard to the statement by the Committee on Adolescence "Pregnancy and Abortion Counseling" (Pediatrics 63:920, 1979). While this statement is, in many ways, forthright and sensitive, it nevertheless tends to perpetuate some of the unfortunate fallacies which surround a much controverted issue.
First of all it identifies abortion as a "sexual matter." While it is true that sexual activity leads to pregnancy which may, in turn, lead to a request for abortion, the controversies regarding abortion are not merely sexual or even primarily sexual.
