Abstract
I read with interest the article by Speck et al. (Pediatrics 60:356, September 1977) about group B streptococcal colonization rate. They point out that infants receiving cord treatment had a higher incidence of group B streptococcal colonization.1
I think that this statement may be misleading. We know of the effectiveness of triple dye in controlling staphylococcal colonization and infection. This was proven after the routine use of hexachlorophene was discontinued in nurseries around the country when its neurotoxicity was discovered.
