Abstract
With the survival of an increasing number of premature infants, an increased incidence of retrolental fibroplasia (RLF) has been documented in neonatal centers despite the careful monitoring of both FIO2 and PaO2 levels. Johnson et al. report an incidence of 19% among infants weighing less than 2,500 gm, with 32% in the 1,000- to 1,500-gm weight group and 75% among the six survivors in the less than 1,000-gm weight category, at Pennsylvania Hospital from 1968 to 1972.
