Abstract
A 37-month-old black boy with an illness diagnosed as acrodermatitis enteropathica at 2 months of age had normal tryptophan metabolism. Results of direct and indirect immunofluorescence studies were negative. A biopsy of the jejunum revealed edema and superficial ulceration of the mucosa. Electron microscopy of the skin revealed virus-like particles in the epidermal cells. Marked clinical improvement occurred with diiodohydroxyquin therapy.
