Abstract
Among the many books in the pediatric armamentarium there are some that emerge as "classics" in their time. Such is the stature of Krugman and Ward's Infectious Diseases of Children and Adults which has recently appeared in its fifth edition. This time the title is expanded to "of Children and Adults." The book retains the virtues of earlier editions. It remains a readable "slim volume" despite significant additions. It bears the homogeneity, individuality and wholeness attainable in a volume written not by a collection of editors but by two very close colleagues.
