Abstract
The use of corticosteroids in croup remains controversial as evidenced by the many recent Commentaries in Pediatrics.1
The Committee on Drugs has been concerned about the lack of well-controlled studies on this question. A similar concern was expressed in its recent statement on the use of steroids in bronchiolitis.2 Therefore, at the request of an Academy Fellow, the Committee has prepared a suggested protocol for a multiclinic study of corticosteroid usage in croup. This should prove useful to all who plan well-controlled clinical studies on this controversial question.
