Abstract
Drawing upon their rich background of international experience and their past publications, Drs. Williams and Jelliffe have assembled a monograph setting out to "present a point of view, some examples of diversity, and a practical philosophy. Little is presented in the way of clinical details (although selected references are included) except insofar as these help illustrate certain situations. For basically mother and child services have to be tailored to local circumstances. Universal solutions are an illusion, and the ‘blue-print’ export of services from one part of the world to another is rarely valid; in the past it has too often led to solutions suggestive of Lewis Carroll."
