Fetal growth in weight is presented on 40,000 single, newborn infants between 27 and 44 weeks' gestational age. They were delivered of white mothers who lived near sea level and received obstetric care from private physicians. Their mean birth weights were greater at term and after term than previously reported in the United States and were similar to those presented from the Scandinavian countries.
