Studies on the natural history and course of congenital rubella are currently in progress in various pediatric centers in the United States. Long term observation of many infants with this disease should clarify many of the problems difficult to cope with today. When additional information becomes available, a more definitive report on diagnosis and treatment may be indicated. The final solution of the rubella problem is dependent upon the development of a safe and effective vaccine.
