Purpose In response to our nation’s epidemic drug overdose deaths, the Joint Commission has mandated that non-pharmacologic therapies, for example acupuncture, be offered to patients with pain. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China for pain, and has gained global utilization. Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institute of Health as safe and effective for pain. It is widely administered in the Veterans Administration for pain and has positively contributed towards the decrease in opioid dosing. …
