The following American Academy of Pediatrics Recommended Schedule for Immunization of Healthy Infants and Children was revised and published in the Twenty-Third Edition of the Report of the Committee on Infectious Diseases, 1994 Red Book (see p 23). The Red Book was introduced at the end of April at the Academy Spring Session in Denver. The recommended age for the third dose of OPV in the routine childhood immunization schedule has been expanded from 15-18 months to 6-18 months of age; and the recommended age for the first dose of MMR has been expanded from 15 months to 12-15 months of age. Please consult your 1994 Red Book for other changes in recommendations and related information. The Academy will publish an updated immunization schedule each year in the interval before the next edition of the Red Book is published.
