Please clarify the information below which has been extracted from
the article which suggests needle sizes which would be approriate. I and
my nurse colleagues were rather surprised at the weights quoted in the
article see below:
"1/2-inch needle for girls weighing 70 kg or less and boys weighing
75 kg or less;
a 5/8-inch needle for girls 70–115 kg and boys 75–140 kg;
a 7/8- to 1-inch needle for girls 115 kg or more and boys 140 kg or more".
The figures for weight appear to us very unusual for children in the
ages quoted . Is there some explanation for this?

I think that if the weights referred to in the conclusion, regarding
the needle lengths, were in LBS instead of KG, it would make much more
sense!It would be:
1/2 in for children weighing <70 lbs,5/6 in between 70 and 115 lbs and
7/8to 1 in for girls over 115 lbs and boys over 140 lbs.
