Since the study group identified incurs higher cost, why not use the ImmunoCAP test to screen? It seems that clinicians and patients would benefit alike to determine if the rhinitis seen was indeed allergic. It's true that all rhinitis is a risk factor for asthma but that the allergic group deserves a more aggressive workup by primary care and a possible referral to a specialist. Which rhinitis group should get this treatment? Differentiate the group with a reliable blood test, then make the decision. Dr. Sampson's studies have demonstrated it's reliability. Further testing can be done in the specialist's office.
