Your publication regarding the association of drugs with CNS disease, specifically trimethoprim (as well as TMP-SMX), is an timely reminder of an entity infrequently considered by pediatricians. Too often, when causative agents are sought but not found, the etiology of a central nervous system or even a systemic illness, is ascribed to 'a virus.' Adverse drug reactions may have many presentations. We previously reported the association of TMP-SMX with central nervous system and systemic inflammatory response, a report we wish to call to your attention (Pediatr Infect Dis J 14:76,1995).
