Re: Experimentation

The research of Fran Porter to determine the response of babies to pain is commendable. Her research was included in the landmark paper of Anand and Hickey, "Pain and Its Effects in the Human Neonate and Fetus," published in the NEJM, 317:1321-1329 (November 19), 1987. How many more studies do we need to demonstrate the obvious -- babies do feel pain and need pain relief? The time has come to stop the studies and give the babies what they need: compassionate care.
