POLICY STATEMENT

Recommended Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedule—United States, July–December 2004

Committee on Infectious Diseases

The mid-year recommended childhood and adolescent immunization schedule of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Family Physicians is issued for July to December 2004.

Changes in the mid-year schedule include the following:

  1. The range of recommendations bar for influenza vaccine for children 6 through 23 months of age is moved above the dotted line, indicating that these children should be immunized annually.
  2. The influenza vaccine footnote has been updated to highlight the recommendation that healthy children 6 through 23 months of age and close contacts of healthy children aged 0 through 23 months should receive the influenza vaccine, because children in this age group are at substantially increased risk of influenza-related hospitalizations.
  3. The influenza vaccine footnote has been updated to highlight the recommendation that health care workers and other persons (including household members) in close contact with persons at high risk should be immunized annually.
