Developmental Care Does Not Alter Sleep and Development of Premature Infants

To the Editor.

We read with interest the study by Ariagno et al1 reporting the sleep-wake patterns and neurodevelopmental outcomes of very low birth weight infants cared for by the Neonatal Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP). This report is a follow-up to the original randomized, controlled trial conducted by Fleischer et al2 where the APIB scores at 42 weeks postconceptional age have already been reported, and are reiterated in Table 5 of the article.
