To the Editor.
We read with interest the article by Hill et al1
regarding proarrhythmia associated with cisapride therapy in childhood. In light of the aforementioned article and that of Schwartz et al2 demonstrating the association of a long QT interval with sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), we feel it relevant to report
our study on the effects of cisapride on QTc interval, heart rate, and
rhythm in infants. One hundred sixty infants, aged 2 to 54 weeks, were
enrolled for polysomnographic study. Each infant underwent continuous
bipolar limb lead electrocardiography recording for 8 hours (including
simultaneous oxygen saturation, electroencephalographic, thoracic
respiratory movement, and nasal airflow monitoring).
