GENETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY TO ASTHMA— BRONCHIAL HYPERRESPONSIVENESS COINHERITED WITH MAJOR GENE FOR ATOPY

The study demonstrates that the level of serum IgE is coinherited with the trait to have bronchial hyperresponsiveness to histamine. This appears to be on chromosome 5q near the locus that regulates IgE production and may be a polygenic phenomenon.
