We appreciate the information from Rhoads and Rogan regarding the treatment of lead-exposed children (TLC) trial that will include children down to a blood lead of 20 µg/dL. The issue of thresholds for detectable effects of lead remains controversial and is less relevant in the face of the purpose of this trial: ie, will the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks associated with chelation therapy? This large-scale trial using body surface area will be useful to demonstrate any benefit of that approach over weight-based calculations.
