Supplemental Security Income to Children and Adolescents
As a retired pediatrician and Social Security Administration medical expert who has testified before administrative law judges in nearly one hundred Supplemental Security Income (SSI) hearings, I would like to comment on the AAP statement entitled "Why Supplemental Security Income Is Important for Children and Adolescents," by the Committee on Children With Disabilities (Pediatrics. 1995;95:603-608). Colleagues in pediatrics who are called on for documentation of a child's disability should be aware of several significant ramifications related to this program.
