Bright Futures is a lengthy publication that details guidelines for the health supervision of infants, children, and adolescents. It is sponsored by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCH) of the United States Public Health Service and the Medicaid Bureau of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) to update "health supervision policies and practices." This commentary is presented so that pediatricians may understand the mechanism of development and the result.

The final report of the Bright Futures project is currently being printed and distributed. It undoubtedly will have a profound effect on health care decisions, planning, and scheduling because of its development by the MCH.
