Adams et al ask for data on the impact of age on risk of HIV infection. We did not collect data on the age of sexual partners and so are not able to follow-up on this intriguing idea. We did collect information on age at first intercourse in the second half of the study. This variable was significantly correlated with HIV status (r = 0.187, r2 = 0.03 or 3% of the variance), but when it was available for entry into the logistic equation, other variables entered first and age at first intercourse quickly lost significance.
