Homeopathic Diarrhea Trial

Michael Carlston MD1

1 Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, CA

The interesting and potentially important trial of homeopathic treatment of acute diarrhea by Jacobs (Pediatrics, May 1994) was impressive overall. However, the article also included apparent errors in Table 6. The total number of patients listed under "Days of Diarrhea Prior Before Entry" does not equal the totals listed at the top of the table for active and placebo groups (39 vs 40 and 38 vs 41, respectively). In the same table, the patient numbers for "Prior Days > 1, >5" under placebo equals 22, not 19 as the section indicates. A correction or explanation would be appreciated.
