Letter to the Editor

Murry S. Katz MD1

The artide by Wiswell et al reports a mean age of 2.92 years for circumcision. This late age beyond the neonatal period is a consequence of the traditional teaching that after 3 months of age the patient should be 1 year of age or older when circumcision is done. At that age, general anesthesia and sutures are said to be required.

As a Jewish Mohel (traditional circumciser), I believe the above teachings are incorrect. I routinely circumcise infants between 3 and 15 months of age.
