Sale of Individual Cigarettes: A New Development

To the Editor.—

Each year, more people die as a result of cigarette smoking than from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or crack/cocaine. As such, use and abuse of tobacco remains a serious health concern in our society. The fact that a recent study concluded that young children were as adept at recognizing Old Joe, the cartoon camel that promotes Camel cigarettes, as they were at identifying Mickey Mouse, vividly demonstrates the influence of one tobacco company on our children.
