Recurrence of the hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is unusual; most recurrent cases are atypical,1 that is, not preceded by the customary diarrheal prodrome. We report a case in which results of serologic tests and stool culture provided evidence that both the initial episode and the recurrence followed diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli 0157:H7. This child was previously described because of severe ocular involvement that followed the initial HUS episode.2)
