BOY AWARDED $28.7 MILLION

J. F. L. MD

PHOENIX—A jury awarded $28.7 million to a 5-year-old boy, who contracted AIDS through an unauthorized blood transfusion, and his parents in what his attorney believes is the largest award of its kind.

The Maricopa County Jury on Friday awarded $26.7 million to Alex Edwards and $1 million to each of his parents, Roy and Pat Edwards.

The jury on May 23 found [the physician and his group] liable for Alex's AIDS infection through the unauthorized transfusion shortly after the boy's birth in 1985.
