1 Former Program Director, General Pediatrics Academic Development Program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, President William T. Grant Foundation
I shared the commentary by Taussig and Ey1 with the Project Directors of the six participating sites of the General Pediatrics Academic Development Program. The authors of the commentary raise several important questions, which we collectively answer.
1. Three years of fellowship training (rather than the two provided in the program) should be required. All of us agree enthusiastically with this statement and believe that at least half of fellowship training time should be protected for research. In the 2-year program of the General Pediatrics Academic Development Program, at least 50% of the fellows' time was dedicated to research, more than many fellowships in subspecialities.
