To the Editor.
The recent report by Bull et al, "Improved Outcome in Pierre Robin Sequence: Effect of Multidisciplinary Evaluation and Management" (Pediatrics. 1990;86:294-301), emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary approach, including a sleep center evaluation for patients with complex craniofacial disorders. The authors' point that oximetry alone is inadequate should be emphasized, their data demonstrates the difficulty in interpreting polysomnographic data in children, especially during active times such as feeding.
In Figure 2, the signal from the thoracic and abdominal strain gauges are of low amplitude and irregular, with no obvious relationship to airflow.
