It was most enlightening to read the article on "Sports Deficit Disorder" in the June issue of Pediatrics.1 Drs Burke and McGee deserve credit for their pioneering work in describing this tragic and all-too-common condition. As it happens, we in the Northwest independently have recognized the need for such a diagnosis and for appropriate therapy. We must, however, take issue with several of the recommendations made in Burke and McGee's article.
First, the sobriquet "Sports Deficit Disorder," while sounding properly medical (vague, yet alliterative), is perhaps too vague, and it offers no suggestion as to therapy.
