UNWANTED CHILDREN

Infant mortality was significantly higher among unwanted children [in Finland] than among the desired children (24.0 us 14.2 per 1000 but no difference was found among the older children up to the age of 16. The incident of CP and mental retardation (I.Q. < 71) up to the age of 14 years were 3.1 and 3.2 times higher in the unwanted children than in the desired children respectively, the differences being statistically highly significant.
