Ethical Issues in Preventive Pediatrics
1 Foundation for Research in Childhood Athens, Greece
During the last 20 years there has been an increasing interest in many aspects of medical ethics. This is not surprising, because continuously advancing medical knowledge and technology have given to the medical profession new powers over life and death. These have created many dilemmas that were nonexistent as recently as the 1950s and the 1960s. The advances and the dilemmas drew into the field of medicine other sciences and disciplines such as philosophy and law. They also stimulated the interest of the wider public, which, rightly, wanted to participate more actively in all matters and decisions affecting their health and ultimately their lives.
