DISTURBING ASSERTIONS CONCERNING MALPRACTICE

There's an astonishing dearth of information of actual incidents of [medical] malpractice, as opposed to the number that are brought to some stage of litigation. The best available data . . . [indicates] one episode of malpractice in every one hundred hospital admissions. Patricia M. Danzon, an economist ... has compared that finding with a tabulation of malpractice claims brought in the same period. She estimates that only 10% of the incidents of genuine negligence led to a claim.
