Gladstone et al1 compared microbial colonization, cord separation, and user satisfaction using the following cord care regimens: triple dye once, triple dye daily, triple dye once followed by daily alcohol, povidone-iodine once, povidone daily, silver sulfadiazine daily, or bacitracin daily. The cords treated with daily povidone-iodine separated a few days earlier, and the user satisfaction rate was high. Average duration of use of povidone was 9.6 days. There was no difference in microbial activity between treatments.
