To the Editor.—

I agree with Plaut et al (Pediatrics 1988;81:174) about the importance of parent education in the management of asthma, but I believe there is an additional reason for the perceived reluctance of pediatricians to use the term "asthma" for the rare or occasional wheezer.

What response do Plaut et al give to a request for insurance information concerning a child who had one or two episodes of wheezing 5 years before?
