Aspirin and Reye Syndrome

JIM BARAL MD1

1 210 Central Park South, New York, NY 10019

To the Editor.—

I read with interest the article by Orlowski et al.1 As a coauthor of the original article on Reye syndrome,2 and as the author of a relevant letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine,3 I was surprised that the authors did not review these previous submissions, in which it was stated that 11 of the 21 patients in the original study were given aspirin before the onset of their syndrome.
