We have indeed been aware of the possible effects of ketamine upon cerebral blood flow during this and previous studies. Although it would seem from studies in adult animals that the 30-mg/kg, IM, dose of ketamine is large, the newborn puppy, in our experience, is not sensitive to this agent and requires this dose for minimum effect. In addition, cerebral and systemic hemodynamic responses to ketamine may be dependent not only upon the dose but also upon the animal's ventilatory status and whether paralyzing agents are present,1 as well as upon the species.2
