The possibility that episodes of hypoxemia may increase the risk for retinopathy of prematurity is interesting and has some clinical and experimental support. The difficulty in establishing this association is that there are many confounding variables that may be related to hypoxemia and retinopathy of prematurity, such as asphyxia, prematurity, duration of oxygen therapy, episodes of hyperoxemia, etc. We have analyzed our data and attempted to correct for some of these confounding variables by using logistic regression analysis.
